It is always a good idea to choose light colored curtains if you wish to allow a good deal of sunlight in the room. Darker curtains are fine too as long as you can push them back during the daytime to let the sun in. You can add valances to tab-top and grommet curtains that match the panels you are hanging.

Unlined drapes allow more light into the room but they also allow for drafts. Lined drapes are more expensive then the unlined variety so if money is an issue go with unlined and then consider having your windows caulked properly to keep those pesky drafts out.
